Wednesday Evening Class
The Four Noble Truths
In the Sutra of The Four Noble Truths, Buddha says, “You should know sufferings. You should abandon origins. You should attain cessations. You should practice the path.” In this series we will explore how these profound teachings can be applied practically to our life, enabling us to solve our daily problems and to establish within our minds the path to liberation and lasting happiness.
A New Perspective
“All the suffering there is in this world arises from wishing our self to be happy. All the happiness there is in this world arises from wishing others to be happy.” – Shantideva
In this series we will explore how all the problems of daily life arise from our self-centered perspective. Each week, we will investigate a particular negative state of mind and discover its positive mental opponent. By learning to reduce our obsessive self-concern we will discover how the mind that cherishes others is a powerful method to solve our problems.
Like a Cloudless Sky – Meditations for a Clear Mind
Learn meditations to uncover the pure, essential nature of your mind, which lies beneath the usual turbulence of distracting thoughts. Through practicing these meditations we will experience the immediate benefits of a calmer mind and as we gain familiarity we will start to experience a deeper sense of inner peace, clarity and stillness in our mind, which will cause our usual problems of stress and tension to fall away.
Karma & the Key to Freedom
Karma is the natural law of actions and their effects. By understanding the law of karma we can take responsibility for all of our experiences and learn how to create positive karma and purify our potential for future suffering. In this way we can take control of our life and find real happiness within our own mind.
The Confidence to Change
Many people suffer from a lack of self-confidence or base their self-esteem on things that are unreliable and subject to change. By tapping into the limitless reservoir of peace and happiness within our own mind, we can develop authentic self-confidence based on insight into our extraordinary potential.
