Foundation Program (FP)

The Foundation Program (FP) is for anyone who wishes to deepen their understanding and experience of Buddhism through a systematic study practice.

In essence, FP is a practical method to improve our good heart, wisdom and inner peace.

Everyone can join and experience great benefits from being a part of this regular study program. Pre-registration is required.

How to Understand the Mind

Monday & Thursday nights

FP-intro-Mar-2015-EVENT

We all experience problems and difficulties in our lives, but we can learn how to train our mind to remain calm and peaceful in any situation.

By studying and practicing the methods to develop the skills to transform life’s difficulties into valuable insights, we can make our life truly meaningful.

Anyone can benefit from a structured and regular study program.

It helps us to keep the wise advice learned in the class alive in our heart and to use them as methods to solve our problems and to create a better world.

In this particular program, learn how to practice the teachings of training the mind presented in the book How to Understand our Mind

‘Happiness and suffering are feelings – parts of our mind – and so their main causes are not to be found outside the mind. If we really want to be truly happy and free from suffering we must improve our understanding our of mind.’ – How to Understand the Mind

How to Understand the Mind

by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

FP-intro-Mar-2015-EVENT

This book offers us deep insight into our mind, and shows how an understanding of its nature and functions can be used practically in every day experience to improve our lives.

Part 1 is a practical guide to developing and maintaining a light, positive mind – showing how to recognize and abandon states of mind that arms us, and to replace them with peaceful and beneficial ones.

Part 2 describes different types of mind in detail, revealing the depth and profundity of the Buddhist understanding of the mind. It concludes with a detailed explanation of meditation, showing how by controlling and transforming our mind we can attain a lasting state of joy, independent of external conditions.

Do I have to be a Buddhist to benefit from this Program?

No. Anyone can benefit from deepening their experience of meditation and from applying Bhudda’s teachings in their daily life. Buddhists respect all people and are happy to help anyone regardless of whether they subscribe to another faith, or to none. Of course, being a Buddhist centre, Buddhist prayers are done in all our classes.

Do I need to attend both FP classes or can I join Monday OR Thursday?

Attendance to both classes every week is part of the commitment made by students wishing to engage in this in-depth Foundation Program. This is one of the main difference with the General Program which allows students to drop-in at their own convenience.

How long does the program run for?

Since FP is designed to deepen our understanding of a particular book, the pace at which it is covered varies from one book to the next. In average, it takes 1 – 2 years to complete the study of a book. Students sign-up for part of the book or the entire book.

What are alternatives if I cannot attend both classes or cannot attend every week?

The General Program offers teachings of the same quality but allows student to simply drop-in when they can. This includes all guided meditations, evening and morning classes, weekend courses and retreats.

Teacher Training Program (TTP)

The Teacher Training Program is also an opportunity for deepening our understanding of Buddhism.

The course runs on Sundays at 2pm.

It consists of extensive study and retreat components over many years.

In addition, this program provides us with the skills and qualifications to become an authentic Kadampa Buddhist teacher.

Heart of Wisdom – commentary to the Heart Sutra

The Teacher Training Program (TTP) offers the perfect opportunity to train as an authentic teacher of Kadampa Buddhism.

This committed study program covers twelve of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s books on Sutra and Tantra, and includes a series of meditation retreats.

TTP is the perfect basis for transforming our minds and swiftly progressing on the spiritual path.

With this deeper understanding and clarity we can become fully qualified as a teacher of the New Kadampa Tradition.

Each class consists of chanted prayers, a guided meditation, teaching and discussion.

Sundays • 2:00-6:30pm

This completely new presentation by the author of Modern Buddhism offers truly liberating insights and advice for the contemporary reader.

It reveals the profound meaning of the very heart of Buddha’s teachings – the Perfection of Wisdom Sutras.

The author shows how all our problems and suffering come from our ignorance of the ultimate nature of things, and how we can abandon this ignorance and come to enjoy pure, lasting happiness by developing a special wisdom associated with compassion for all living beings.
