Come and experience a different side of Kadampa Meditation Centre Canada. Drop-in and join us for daily chanted prayers.

Pujas (chanted prayers) are an important component of training in a spiritual life. They help us to still our mind, connect with the Buddhas and receive inspiring blessings.

Below is the list of the pujas we practise together at the temple.

All pujas are free of charge.

Wishfulfilling Jewel

Held daily (check calendar for exact dates and times)

This practice is the heart essence of Kadampa Buddhism.

It includes a 15 minute silent meditation.

Offering to the Spiritual Guide (OSG)

Held on the 10th and 25th of the month (check calendar for exact dates and times)

This is a special chanted prayer requesting our Spiritual Guide to increase our compassion, wisdom and spiritual power. 

This practice includes a tsog offering. 

For Tsog pujas we gather together to pray and make special offerings.

Please feel free to bring an offering of vegetarian food. (2 hours)

Melodious Drum

Held around the 29th of the month (check calendar for exact dates and times)

This is a monthly practice of making offerings and requesting the Dharma protector, Dorje Shugden, to remove obstacles and gather all favorable conditions for our spiritual practice. 

This practice includes a tsog offering. 

For Tsog pujas we gather together to pray and make special offerings.

Please feel free to bring an offering of vegetarian food. (3.5 hours)

Green Tara Chanted Prayers

Held on the 8th of the month (check calendar for exact dates and times)

At Kadampa Centers worldwide, the 8th of the month is Tara Day.

Tara is a female Buddha whose name means ‘Rescuer’.

She is the embodiment of swift compassion.

If we rely upon Tara sincerely and with strong faith, she will protect us from all obstacles and fulfill all our wishes.

Everyone is welcome and invited to join us for Tara’s chanted prayer practice, Liberation from Sorrow. (1 hour)

Powa

Held at various times (check calendar for exact dates and times)

The purpose of this practice is to lead countless deceased beings to the Pure Land of Buddha. 

By engaging in this practice, we create a great collection of virtue, which will also lead us into the pathway to the Pure Land of a Buddha.  (45 minutes)

Eight Mahayana Precepts – A Pure Life

Held around the 15th of the month (check calendar for exact date and time)

The practice of taking and keeping the eight Mahayana precepts is a special practice of moral discipline that is performed with a strong motivation to benefit others.

In this practice, we take eight precepts and vow to keep them purely for a period of 24 hours.

In doing so, we acquaint ourself with the practice of pure moral discipline and thereby make our human life meaningful. (40 minutes)
